An Update on Motability Lease Extensions from Macklin Motors
As a customer of the Motability scheme, you may have faced delays on receiving a new vehicle. This was due to persistent vehicle supply chain disruptions affecting new car production.
Previously, an automatic six-month extension was added to the end of every lease to help customers navigate this.
Now, the six-month extension is no longer needed and has expired as of 15th August 2024.
But what does this mean for you?
Are lease extensions still available on the Motability Scheme?
Automatic lease extensions are no longer automatically applied. As of 15th August 2024, you will have to apply directly via your Motability Scheme account online. You can choose whether you get in touch with the Customer Experience Team and call directly on 0300 4564566.
If you’re already on an existing lease extension, secured before 15th August 2024, you can continue with your lease.
Additionally, if your new vehicle is still delayed when that term ends, Motability will ensure your lease aligns with the arrival of your new car.
What are my other options at the end of a lease term?
When you reach the end of your lease there are a few options you can choose from.
Choose a new vehicle
You’ll be prompted to start the application process for a new vehicle up to three months before your current lease ends. Motability will send you a reminder letter so you can get the ball rolling promptly and avoid unnecessary delays.
Good condition payment
If you return your vehicle in good condition at the end of your lease, you may be offered a Good Condition Payment. This incentive helps ensure returned vehicles maintain their resale value.
Leave the Scheme
If you decide to leave the Motability Scheme at the end of your lease, you can reclaim your Mobility Allowance to use elsewhere. However, the variety of benefits available with the Motability Scheme means that most customers choose to stay with us.
What if my allowance ends before my lease?
If your allowance ends before your lease term, you sadly won’t be eligible for the Motability Scheme any longer. To assist in these cases, Motability will provide you with a support package. This will help you transition smoothly and explore alternative mobility options.
