Direct Line Motability - the New Motability Scheme Insurance Provider
From 1st September 2023, your Motability Scheme insurer changed. The new insurance provider is Direct Line Motability (DLM).
To make the transition as smooth as possible, you should have received a new DLM Insurance Cover Booklet by post or email. If you haven’t received it, you can also download it. You can also reach the Motability Scheme from the same phone number on 0300 037 3737.
What changes?
There are several new digital insurance features throughout your online account. You can now manage your drivers and view your policy details with a glance. Other key changes include:
1. Easier renewal insurance check process
The insurance check at the point of application is removed. Instead, the insurance provider will run this five months before the contract ends. When viewing an application in Eligibility status, you can only see award and driver check information.
2. Open insurance policy waiver
Customers who need full-time care or have a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) driven by multiple carers can now have an open insurance policy.
From 1st September 2023, the care provider does not need to confirm the customer’s eligibility. Instead, the customer will provide proof that they are eligible. They must read the open policy waiver and confirm they agree with the terms.
3. New qualifying question for a WAV
In addition to other changes, the OLA application will also include a new question. This will request information on whether the customer is applying for a WAV with several drivers.
4. Additional driver in the application
After 1st September 2023, you can add three drivers to your application. This is available in your customer online account and at your dealership via Online Applications (OLA). You can also change the drivers afterwards in your insurance portal (more information on this below).
5. Easier to add a foreign licence in OLA
When adding a driver in OLA, there’s a dropdown that allows you to choose an EU/EEA country. This makes adding foreign drivers quicker and easier than before.
6. New insurance portal
You can also now access a new DLM insurance portal from your online account. The highlights of the portal include a policy summary section, where you can request a claims history letter. It also has a section about dynamic excesses. You can also add, remove or reactive inactive drivers.
