Ford records best June sales since 1989
Following an increase in total vehicle sales and share June, Ford recorded the best June sales since 1989, extending its lead over its nearest competitor.
The brand's total vehicle sales lead has increased by 44 per cent compared with June last year, helping Ford to retain its position as the UK market leader in total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle sales. Ford's Fiesta remained the best seller in June, in its seventh year as the UK's top-selling vehicle.
Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director at Ford of Britain, said: "I am delighted that, as the UK market records its 40th consecutive month of growth, we have consolidated and extended our long-standing UK market leadership.
"We have invested consistently in exciting products and industry-leading technologies that are delivered through the strongest UK dealer network. Our extended CV range is providing outstanding sales results and the roll out of new models includes C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale."
The official figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that total car sales in June were up 12.9 per cent to 257,817 units, compared with June 2014; Ford sales totaled at 33,055 - 3,033 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.
Ford's lead in retail car sales reflects the preferences of private buyers. The Ford Fiesta is in its seventh year as the UK top seller and in June it secured 12,543 registrations, up from 11,213 in June 2014. The broad customer appeal of Ford's car range is demonstrated by Fiesta, B-MAX, Focus, C-MAX, Kuga and Galaxy all occupying top three places in their respective market segments in June and for the year to date.
