Ford to expand in the European SUV market
Ford of Europe is to debut its Edge SUV at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show.
The Edge will kick off Ford's plan to launch five new or redesigned SUVs and Crossovers over the next three years.
Industry analyst HIS claim that SUV sales in Europe are expected to increase from 20 per cent of total passenger car sales in 2014 to 27 per cent by 2020, and Ford is embracing this by introducing all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive on eight of its models 50 per cent of its line-up by early next year.
Jim Farley, chairman and CEO of Ford of Europe commented "Globally, Ford has been at the forefront of SUVs for decades, and is now delivering a European line-up that offers the stylish design, carlike dynamics and fuel efficiency that are key to why SUVs have become so popular in Europe. As demand for SUVs continues to grow, so will the range that Ford offers from rugged models with true go-anywhere ability to sporty models designed to suit urban lifestyles."
