Hearts End Winless Run to Maintain Top Four Push
Heart of Midlothian ended a run of three games without a win in the Scottish Premiership to maintain an early season push for the top four.
The Macklin Motors-backed side had endured a winless October after a draw with local rivals Hibernian was followed by back-to-back defeats against the Old Firm.
Kicking off November with a home match against Livingston, Hearts were in dominant form at Tynecastle having had almost 80% of possession and registering no fewer than 24 shots over the course of a match that was very much one-way traffic.
With the visitors defending for their lives at the back, the game would be decided with a single goal from Kenneth Vargas, who smashed in the winner from close range with little over ten minutes left on the clock.
The victory moved Hearts into the top four, although a weekend win for Kilmarnock saw the Jambos slip a place whilst they headed to Hampden Park for a Viaplay Cup semi-final with Rangers.
Two goals from James Tavernier and a third from Scott Wright put Rangers into a 3-0 midway through the second half and although Lawrence Shankland was able to pull one back, Steven Naismith and his side fell to defeat and bowed out of the competition.
Hearts now head for Motherwell in the league this weekend.
