Hearts Return To Winning Ways With Dundee Success
Hearts secured a first win in three games with a straight-forward victory against Dundee in the latest round of fixtures in the Scottish Premiership.
Hearts had secured third in the standings in the previous game despite a loss to champions-elect Celtic, and returned to Tynecastle keen to celebrate that achievement with three points.
The home side had the better of the game from the outset, although the opening goal only came after Dundee had gone close at the other end.
A fine cross to the back post from Barrie McKay was knocked back across goal by Kenneth Vargas and settled into the corner to give Hearts the lead, with Dundee missing out on the chance to equalise when a potential penalty was overturned by the intervention of VAR.
McKay was again involved in the second goal when his ball through the middle allowed Alan Forrest to beat the off-side trap and when ‘keep Jon McCracken charged out of his goal, Forrest skipped round him before rolling the ball into an empty net to make it 2-0.
The points were already secured before Lawrence Shankland celebrated his Player of the Year award with the third goal going into stoppage time, collecting a pass from Scott Fraser and clipping the ball beyond the ‘keeper to make it 3-0.
Hearts have two games remaining to try and break the 70 point mark – a feat only achieved by Celtic and Rangers since Aberdeen finished second in the standings during the 2017-18 season.
