Hearts Stay Third Despite Tough Loss
Hearts retained a comfortable top three place in the Scottish Premier League going into the international break despite a disappointing defeat at Ross County.
The Macklin Motors-backed side held a comfortable lead over the chasing pack making the trip to Dingwall but fell behind just before the break when Simon Murray took advantage of some delays in the away defence to snatch the ball and beat Zander Clark.
Murray then doubled the lead for the home side shortly after half-time, with a cross from the left from Eamonn Brophy falling kindly at his feet to smash a shot behind Clark and into the back of the net.
Hearts thought they were back in the game when a free-kick from the edge of the box was whipped into the net by Stephen Kingsley, only for VAR to rule the goal out for off-side – with Lawrence Shankland deemed to have been interfering with play in front of ‘keeper George Wickens.
Hearts did reduce the deficit late on when Yutaro Oda fired across Wickens and into the net but there was no time for an equaliser as the visitors lost away at their rivals for the first time in more than a decade.
Next up after the international break is the visit of Kilmarnock on Easter Saturday.
