Hibernian Confirm David Gray As New Head Coach
After four spells in caretaker charge, David Gray will lead Hibernian into the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season after being named as the new Head Coach of the Edinburgh side.
Having started his senior career with Manchester United, Gray joined forces with Hibernian after stints with the likes of Preston North End, Stevenage and Burton Albion south of the border.
Named as captain ahead of his second season with the Macklin Motors-baced side, Gray wrote his name into the Club record books when he led Hibernian – then playing in the second tier – to the final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park.
Going up against Rangers, Hibs took the lead early on and the game looked set for extra time at 2-2 before Gray headed into a corner in stoppage time to earn his side victory in the competition for the first time in more than a century.
Gray also scored on the day that Hibernian returned to the top flight the following season with a win against Queen of the South and remained part of the playing staff through to 2021, when he was named a part of the coaching team.
Since then, Gray has taken control of the first team on four separate occasions, most recently for the final two matches of the season following the departure of Nick Montgomery.
He will now take full charge of the team on a permanent basis, becoming the 14th person to both play for, and manage, the Club.
“It is a real privilege for me to become the Head Coach of this great football club,” he said.
“Everyone knows how much Hibs means to me. It is a massive club with a phenomenal fanbase, that I know very well – so to be given this opportunity is a true honour.
“From being here as a player and a coach for over ten years, I know what a successful Hibs team looks like and I am determined to succeed and take our club forward.”
