Hibernian End Winless Run With Dundee Success
Macklin Motors-backed Hibernian closed the gap on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership with a vital victory in the latest round of league fixtures.
The Edinburgh side had failed to win in the league since early December, and went into the game five points behind the visitors in the chase for a top six position.
Dundee hadn’t won at Easter Road in the league since 2001 and it looked like that run was going to go on when Hibs took the lead in the opening half.
Away ‘keeper Trevor Carson failed to collect a corner and when he then tried to make amends, he wiped out Emiliano Marcondes to give the home side a penalty.
From the spot, Dylan Vente sent Carson the wrong way to secure the lead, which Hibs were able to hold through to half time.
Vente thought he had doubled the lead after the break only to ruled offside after a VAR check, with Curtis Main also seeing a goal chalked off for Dundee for the same reason.
However, there was nothing wrong with the left-footed drive from Luke McCowan that flew past David Marshall from outside the box with twelve minutes to go as Dundee did pull level.
That left Hib facing the prospect of more dropped points despite dominating the majority of the game, but Myziane Maolida had other ideas when he cut inside from the left and beat two defenders before lashing the ball into the net for the winner.
It leaves Hibs two points off the top six going into the mid-week Edinburgh derby with Hearts.
