Hibernian Reclaim Top Six Spot With Livingston Success
Hibernian made it six league games without defeat after a professional performance in the final match before the international break saw the Macklin Motors-backed side ease to victory against Livingston.
The Edinburgh outfit were bidding to try and move back ahead of Dundee in the race for a place in the top six before the mid-season split, and it would prove to be a somewhat one-sided affair at Easter Road as Hibs took control in the opening ten minutes of the game.
The opening goal arrived after just five minutes when Adam Le Fondre was played in on the right hand side of the box and put over a teasing cross that was converted by Jordan Obita – who skipped round ‘keeper Shamal George before tapping into the net.
Before the visitors had time to react, Hibs had moved two clear as Joe Newell broke forwards from the half-way line before interchanging passes around the box and playing in Elie Youan to cross into the centre for Myziane Maolida.
His first time effort duly flashed past George into the net to put Hibs 2-0 to the good and it got even better on 22 minutes as the home side went three clear.
Youan was again the provider from the right-hand side as he sent over a teasing cross into the centre of the box, where Le Fondre slid in to poke the ball home.
Livingston failed to trouble either David Marshall in the Hibs goal during the first half and his replacement at half-time, Jojo Wollacott, had little to do in the second aside from one decent stop to deny Mo Sangare.
Hibs could have gone further clear as Emiliano Marcondes, Maolida and Le Fondre all went close but the three points were the ideal way to enter the international break, with a huge game with Rangers to come at the end of the month.
