Hibernian secured victory in the final home game of the Scottish Premiership season with a straightforward success against Motherwell as two club legends said their goodbyes.

The Macklin Motors-backed side was bidding to avoid a repeat of the 4-0 loss to Aberdeen days earlier that has resulted in Nick Montgomery losing his role as manager.

For a fourth time, David Gray was installed in interim charge for the final two games of the campaign, whilst Malky Mackay was named as Sporting Director to lead the search for a new Head Coach.

Gray rang the changes in the starting eleven as Paul Hanlon and Lewis Stevenson both came in for their final outings at Easter Road before leaving the club in the summer – having made more than 1,110 appearances combined.

Hibs took the lead in the game when Stephen O’Donnell was adjudged to have handled inside the box shortly before the break, with Myziane Maolida converting from the spot for his tenth goal for the club.

There was time for a second before the half-time whistle blew, with a cross from Maolida from the left hand side being volleyed home by Martin Boyle.

A third goal arrived ten minutes into the second half, with a cross from the left again finding Boyle, who took the ball down at the back post before switching to his left foot to smash it past the ‘keeper.

A clean sheet for Hanlon and Stevenson was a good way for the pair to sign off, with both being saluted by those fans in attendance at the final whistle when they completed a lap of honour.

Stevenson holds the record for most league appearances in a Hibernian shirt, having passed Arthur Duncan’s total of 449 back in February last year.

Hibs sign off the league season away at Livingston on Sunday with a chance to secure seventh in the standings.
