Lawrence Shankland Hits 30 As Hearts Salvage Draw
Lawrence Shankland came off the bench to his 30th goal of the season as Hearts fought back from behind to grab a draw with St Mirren.
Having already secured third in the standings, Hearts made a number of changes for the trip to Paisley, with neither team having anything to play for in the penultimate match of the league season.
Shankland dropped to the bench amongst a host of changes and it was St Mirren who took the lead when James Scott put the ball in from close range for his first goal for the club within the first ten minutes.
Hearts battled back however and levelled against the run of play when a cross from the left from Conor Devlin was tucked home by Kyosuke Tagawa to make it 1-1.
St Mirren continued to create plenty of chances, and retook the lead when Caolan Boyd-Munce whipped a ball into the box for James Bolton to head past Craig Gordon and into the net.
By this stage, Shankland had already entered the field of play to replace Alan Forrest and with 17 minutes left to play, he became the first Hearts player to score 30 goals in a season since the late 1980s in fine style.
When a corner from Alex Cochrane was flicked away by a defender, Shankland hooked a volley back over his shoulder whilst facing away from goal and then watched the ball loop into the corner beyond the ‘keeper.
Hearts will complete the season at home to Rangers this weekend.
