Market Leader Ford takes first and second places in both UK car and CV sales in August
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has named Ford models as the first and second highest sellers in August, which puts the British company in good stead for this high sales expected with this month's registration change.
The figures mean that Ford is the UK market leader in total vehicle sales, with the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus topping the UK total vehicle sales list, whilst the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom are first and second in commercial vehicles sales.
The official figures released today by the SMMT show that total car sales in August were up 9.6 per cent to 79,060 units, compared with August 2014. In total, UK car sales so far this this year are up 6.7 per cent from the same period last year to 1,634,369. Ford car sales in August were 3,061 registrations ahead of its nearest rival, at 11,980 whilst Ford car sales for the year to date are at 213,245, 44,993 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.
Chairman and managing director at Ford of Britain, Andy Barratt commented: "In a UK market that has recorded 42 consecutive months of growth, Ford is carrying strong sales momentum into September, which, in combination with the March registration plate change month, accounts for a third of UK annual sales.
He continued: "We are consolidating and growing our long-standing UK market leadership through continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technologies. The sales success of our fresh and extended CV range underlines this, while car sales are outpacing rivals thanks to the flow of new models, including C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale."
