Mazda CX-60 Named Best Plug-In Hybrid at Scottish Car of the Year Awards
The newly released Mazda CX-60 is already making a name for itself, after winning a coveted industry award. The model was named Best Plug-In Hybrid at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2022.
The awards were judged by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW); a group of automotive enthusiasts who have driven cars in Scotland over the last 12 months.
Although the Mazda CX-60 was only released in September, it managed to impress judges enough to take the heavily contested title at the annual awards.
The Mazda CX-60 is the brand’s largest SUV and is also the Japanese manufacturer’s first plug-in hybrid model. The flagship vehicle combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, 129kW electric motor, and a high capacity 17.8kWh battery – making it Mazda’s most powerful road car to date.
On top of this, it has excellent environmental credentials with a combined fuel consumption of 188mpg and combined CO2 emissions of only 33g/km (WLTP). Drivers can expect to achieve 39 miles (WLTP) of all-electric range when running below 62mph - making it ideal for urban driving. Plus, it can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.8 seconds.
ASMW President Jack McKeown commented: “Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid model is the seriously impressive CX-60. The premium SUV has a stylish shape, a beautiful interior – and the ability to travel nearly 40 miles on battery power. Our members particularly liked its driving dynamics and classy cabin.”
Jeremy Thomson, Mazda UK Managing Director stated: “The Mazda CX-60 has seen tremendous sales success across Europe since its launch in September and it is great to have the car recognised by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers as their choice for Plug-In Hybrid of the year so soon after the car’s launch. Mazda has always been a popular brand in Scotland with market share at 2.3 percent vs 1.6 percent for the whole of the UK and I feel confident that, with this recognition, the car will be a popular choice with our Scottish customers.”
The Mazda CX-60 is one of two new models from the manufacturer to be introduced to Europe over the next two years. The second vehicle will be the three-row Mazda CX-80. Working with the latest innovations in human-centric technologies to develop world-leading powertrains, it is certainly an exciting time for the brand.
