Montgomery Pays The Price As Hibs Lose At Home
Hibernian are on the look-out for a new manager after Nick Montgomery paid the price for a 4-0 home loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Having missed out on a place in the top six before the mid-season split, Hibs went into the game at Easter Road looking to bounce back from a defeat at Ross County in the previous match.
Starting the game as ‘best of the rest’ in seventh place, Hibs fell behind when Leighton Clarkson smashed in a shot from the edge of the box on the half hour that left ‘keeper Jojo Wollacott with no chance.
Things got worse for the home side within ten minutes when Jordan Obita was dispossessed near his own goal line and the ball ended up at the feet of Dante Polvara – who clipped the ball home to make it 2-0.
Aberdeen continued to dominate the game after the break and a fine team move ended with Bojan Miovski sweeping home his 26th goal of the season to put his side firmly out of reach.
Hibs had chance to grab a consolation but it was Aberdeen who complete the scoring when 16-year-old Fletcher Boyd tapped in from close range in injury time to move his side ahead in the table.
With Hibs dropping down to ninth place, the decision was taken to relieve Montgomery of his duties after 37 games in charge, with two games left to play this season – both of which will be overseen by David Gray.
