New Mustang available to order in Europe for the first time in 50 years
Ford's new Mustang generated a web stampede as potential customers flooded Ford websites to design and price-up 500,000 models in the first month it was available to order across Europe.
During the first week, more Mustangs were specified online than any other Ford, with Ford's configurator websites attracting more than 1.1 million visits from mid-January to mid-February.
Data for that period indicated that the new Mustang equipped with the 313bhp 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine with a six-speed manual gearbox accounted for half of all configurations, while the other half were specified with the 417bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine.
Roelant de Waard, vice president of Ford Europe's marketing, sales and service, said: "The rush to configure Mustang online represents 50 years of pent up demand across Europe. For some people, the new Mustang is the car they have waited for their whole lives."
Of the five largest European sales markets UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain the powerful 5.0-litre V8 engine was most popular in the UK (54 per cent).
Ford made the first 500 Ford Mustangs for Europe available to reserve during the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final in May. More than 9,300 people registered online for a chance to reserve one of the models during the match, and the first 500 registrations were placed in just 30 seconds.
