Vauxhall's Electric Streets Initiative Helps Improve UK Home-Charging Network

Recent research shows many areas in the UK still require access to on-street charging.

Car manufacturer Vauxhall has launched the Electric Streets Initiative to help boost local charging facilities across UK streets.

Research showed that 80% of electric cars are charged at home, though up to 60% of households in urban areas have no off-street parking for charging.

The initiative, therefore, aims to help local councils increase investment in on-street charging in key areas where this is needed.

About the Vauxhall Electric Streets Initiative

Vauxhall’s Electric Streets Initiative was launched after recent research brought to light the lack of on-street charging facilities in many areas of the UK.

The research came from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request and showed a clear need for improvement.

While 80% of electric cars are charged at home, up to 60% of UK households in urban areas do not have a driveway to facilitate this.

Recognising the need for improvement, Vauxhall has teamed up with on-street charging operators Char.gy, Connected Kerb, and SureCharge to get on-street charging points installed in the form of converted lamp posts and bollards.

A form has been created by the brand on their website encouraging motorists to provide feedback on their local area.

This data will then be shared with local councils to help make decisions on investing.

How can I participate?

The Electric Streets initiative gives you the chance to get involved and register your needs in your neighbourhood.

All you need to do is:

1. Say whether you own an electric vehicle

2. Indicate whether you have access to off-street parking

3. Enter your postcode and click ‘submit’

Your feedback will help collate wide-ranging data to help build a comprehensive map of demand for on-street charging points across the UK.

You don’t need to own an electric vehicle to submit the form - you can still complete it if you are planning on purchasing one. Your vehicle also doesn’t have to be a Vauxhall model.
