Exterior
The MG HS Plug-in Hybrid has a sporty and purposeful look.
At the front, the latest MG stellar field grille frames the large MG badge, and stylish automatic headlights set a commanding presence. Flowing lines along the side of the vehicle look sleek and also improve aerodynamics, whilst large alloy wheels certainly create a statement.
The charging point is located conveniently on the driver's side at the rear of the vehicle, behind a discreet flap - a 7kW home wallbox should charge the vehicle to full in around three hours. At the rear, the model’s sporty looks continue with features such as dual exhausts and a silver skid-plate bumper. Exclusive trims will also get a handy powered tailgate for extra practicality.
Interior
Drivers and passengers will feel immediately relaxed once inside the cabin, thanks to the wealth of quality, soft-touch materials and abundance of leg and headroom on offer.
A 10.1-inch touchscreen and 12-inch driver information display ensure connectivity is at your fingertips at all times. Stylish piano keys are on hand for toggling climate settings – ideal for those who don’t want all functions to be touchscreen operated.
Class-leading space in the rear means that even three tall adults can be seated at ease, and reclining seats add to the sense of spaciousness.
A sizable boot offers up 448 litres of cargo-carrying capacity, extending to 1,375 litres with the rear seats folded. Although there’s slightly less boot space in the hybrid model compared to the petrol variant, there should still be more than enough room for everyday belongings, and the split-level boot provides extra room for bulkier bits of kit e.g., prams and sports equipment.

Powertrain and Performance
A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works alongside a 90kW electric motor with a 16.6kW battery to deliver an electric-only range of 32 miles. With the average UK car journey clocking in at just 8.4 miles, this should easily cover daily journeys - meaning for everyday trips you’ll rarely have to leave electric mode. You should feel the benefit of this at the pumps!
The powertrain delivers 258PS, which is an additional 96PS on the petrol variant. Nippy acceleration means the vehicle can reach 0-60mph in under 7 seconds and the smooth overall ride means the car will feel at ease on long motorway journeys too.
Cementing its position as a great family car the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid has a suite of advanced safety systems, to help to mitigate the risk of collisions, which have contributed to its impressive five-star rating in recent Euro NCAP tests. MG’s high-tech driver assistance system, MG Pilot comes as standard - some of the features onboard include Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Traffic Jam Assist.
Trim Levels and Kit
Two trim levels are available for the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid.
The entry-level Excite model features 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, heated front seats, keyless entry, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 360-degree parking camera and functional yet stylish silver roof rails.
The top-level Exclusive trim adds a power-operated tailgate, panoramic sky roof, ambient interior lighting and metal sports pedals.
The HS PHEV is MG’s first plug-in hybrid model and it’s been a roaring success so far. It’s a great halfway house for those who want to join the electric revolution, but aren’t quite ready to commit to an all-electric car.
