Gladiators Suffer Play-Off Heartache After Top Three Finish
The Caledonia Gladiators endured heartache at the conclusion of the British Basketball League season after falling to defeat in the play-off quarter finals.
In September 2022, the club announced a rebrand as part of a wider strategy to improve equal opportunities across the sport. This transition included a name change which saw the Glasgow Rocks transcend into the Caledonia Gladiators.
It's still a club with the same passion, determination, and values as before - but with a fresh sense of character. We're excited for what lies ahead.
The club has had a few different names since its formation. Established in 1998, as the Edinburgh Rocks, it changed to the Scottish Rocks in 2002. It then became the Glasgow Rocks in 2009, and most recently, the Caldonia Gladiators in 2022.
The club have always competed in the top tier British Basketball League. In their 24 seasons in the BBL, they have made 19 play-off appearances.
The Gladiators play their home games at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. It's a fantastic 6,500 capacity venue which accommodates their passionate fans.
Their main rivals are the Newcastle Eagles, and each season there is an electric atmosphere when the two clubs face off.
Interest and participation in basketball is growing in the UK at a youth and professional level. It's an incredibly exciting time to be involved with one of the top teams in the BBL.
Macklin Motors has supplied the team with a number of Nissan Qashqais to aid the players' transportation needs. We're delighted to be able to keep their players moving.
As well as helping with transportation, we are working with the club to support their various community initiatives. These activities include encouraging participation in basketball at a grassroots level.
We are working with the club to develop the next generation of sporting superstars. We run various matchday activities throughout the season to help achieve this.
Last season, a number of aspiring basketball players had the opportunity to play on court at the Emirates Arena. They were given advice from former Glasgow Rocks captain and GB basketball star Kieron Achara. Plus, they were able to meet their favourite players after the match!
It's all part of our goal to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport.
